Strategic Studies
The Department of Strategic Studies at the Swiss Military Academy at ETH Zurich focuses on the use of political and military power from an interdisciplinary and global perspective. Its focal point is the study of modern strategy - understood as a plan of using means to achieve ends. It also focuses on the strategic and operational analysis of contemporary wars, conflicts and threats, with an emphasis on the military domain. Methodological diversity and the comparative integration of different national and sub-national perspectives are at the core of its research and teaching. Combining academic research with military and political expertise, the department’s research project are geared towards practical application.
