Strategic Studies
The Strategic Studies Department conducts research within the areas listed below. Its basic understanding of strategy is that of a constant interaction between ends, ways and means with regard to the development ("transformation") of armed forces and to their employment in times of crises and war («operational strategy»).
Dr. Marcel Berni
Marcel Berni studied history, political science and ecology at the University of Bern. Since 2014, he has worked as research assistant at the chair for Strategic Studies at the Military Academy at the ETH Zurich. He is currently working on a dissertation analysing the treatment of communist prisoners during «Vietnam's American War». He has been a lecturer at ETH Zurich since 2018.
MA Michel Wyss
Michel Wyss is a PhD candidate at Leiden University researching proxy relationships among non-state armed groups. He studied Government at the Interdisciplinary Center (IDC) Herzliya, Israel und the LBJ School of Public Affairs, University of Texas at Austin. Prior to MILAC, he worked, among others, for the International Institute for Counter-Terrorism (ICT), the Corporate Security Unit at the German Development Cooperation and, most recently, for the Federal Office for Defence Procurement armasuisse.
