Successes of our sports soldiers

How it all began

In 1998, Switzerland applied to host the 2006 Winter Olympics in Sion. In order to be successful there, the then sports minister, Federal Councillor Adolf Ogi, wanted to offer our athletes similar training conditions to those enjoyed by their foreign competitors.

With compulsory military service for every Swiss citizen, he wanted to combine top level sport and military service in the best possible way. And so, in 1998, the current top level sports recruit school was founded.
