Dr. Adrian Wettstein
Biography
After completing his degree in history and politics, Adrian Wettstein contributed to a research project at the University of Bern, financed by the Swiss National Science Foundation, on images and the imagination of war in a comparative European perspective between 1880 und 1914. In 2009, he started working at the Military Academy at ETH Zurich at the Chair for Strategic Studies. While holding this position, he completed his PhD on the Wehrmacht and urban warfare from 1939-1942. Since 2014, he has been engaged in teaching and researching at the Chair for Military History at the Military Academy.
Main Areas of Research
Adrian Wettstein's main research is dedicated to the history of the organisation and tactics of European military forces in the Age of the World Wars. His main focus are the armed forces of Switzerland, Germany and France. Alongside this, he has also pursued his interest in the American Civil War and the Swiss Military during the Cold War.
He is currently working on the sequel to his dissertion on urban warfare from a German perspective, now with a focus on the second half of the Second World War. Additionally, he is conducting research on Swiss officers who, before and during the First World War, were sent abroad.
