Operations and missions
The following column informs you about the manifold operations and missions of the armed forces in Switzerland as well as their peace support and disaster relief work abroad. Furthermore, you will find information here on particularly topical issues such as recruitment and training for missions abroad.
World Economic Forum (WEF)
In 2025, the armed forces will once again support the civilian authorities in the canton of Graubünden in carrying out security tasks in connection with the annual meeting of the World Economic Forum (WEF). Parliament approved the deployment of a maximum of 5000 soldiers on these civil affairs support operations from 2025 until 2027. The 2025 WEF meeting will be held from 20 to 24 January, the army's mission lasts from 14 to 30 January.
Military Disaster Relief
The «subsidiary operations to prevent and master existential dangers» form the framework for military disaster relief at home and abroad; the framework for humanitarian relief operations of the armed forces is provided by the «contributions to international peace support and crisis management» (abroad).
Peacekeeping Swiss Armed Forces
Peacekeeing in the international context is one of the three mandates of the Swiss Armed Forces. Currently approximately 300 men and women are serving voluntary in peacekeeping missions abroad and contribute to the continued stability in regions which have been affected by conflict and war.
