More young people in asylum sector enrolling in education
Neuchâtel, 4.11.2024 - More than half of the 16- to 25-year-olds with an asylum background who arrived in Switzerland in 2017 had completed a post-compulsory programme within five years. This is much higher than among those who arrived in 2012 (37%). The majority initially took part in a programme aimed at improving their integration. A total of 36% enrolled in initial vocational training or a general upper-secondary education programme. Most of them completed a 2-year federal VET certificate (22%). Young women, and especially young mothers, were much less likely to enrol in education. These are some of the results from a new publication from the Federal Statistical Office (FSO).
