Marked increase in labour force participation among 55 to 64-year-olds
Neuchâtel, 24.04.2025 — Between 2014 and 2024, the average age of economically active persons rose from 41.2 to 42.3 years. In the same period, the activity rate among 55 to 64-year-olds increased by 6.1 percentage points to 77.8%. In 2024, economically active persons left the labour market at an average age of 65.3 years (men) and 64.7 years (women). The ratio of persons of statutory retirement age to economically active persons has risen steadily over the last ten years (2014: 33.7; 2024: 37.4). These are the findings of the Swiss Labour Force Survey (SLFS) conducted by the Federal Statistical Office (FSO).
