Intermediate Leadership Course; challenging and inspiration
The best way to describe everything is to write with my heart. This only happens when the results are above my expectations and change my heart, as this course has.
When I arrived, my biggest concern was English. But I didn´t know how wrong I was. Every day, every class, every activity showed me this was a really basic internal concern that was not serious.
This course has opened many doors inside me and given me the tools I need to be a better leader and a better person, as my professional life is linked to my personal one. I discovered how much power a leader has, I realized my mistakes, and also of the opportunity to change everything inside myself and around me.
Every leader works in a different way, nothing is bad or good. I have my style of leadership too and I have discovered that I would like to improve in some aspects. I didn’t feel I must be perfect, the most important thing is that every mistake, every difficulty, is a new opportunity to be better. A leader is an example for the rest of people, and making mistakes looking for the way to be better is an example too.
This course has been a really big challenge and a really interesting learning of leadership. It has made me think, put me in front of myself, given me the opportunity to discover a new way to change the world, encourage and teach others how to do it.
It has been a perfect life lesson to stop, step back, form an overview and start again with more knowledge and the correct tools. I have been able to see an example in each member of my team and at the same time my own reflection in what needs to be changed.
After studying my profile in detail and seeing what a marked profile it is, I have seen that the differences with other profiles add up positively and improve my leadership style. I haven’t found two people with the same profiles, including amongst the variety of nations that work together. Each point of view, opinion, behaviour, and choice may be different, but without prejudice, with an open-mind to progress.
I got to a point where the course pushed me to ask myself about leadership. The definition is clear, but not the meaning behind it. I understood that it is an endless journey which would take me further, with higher goals and greater challenges. I was shocked when I realized how emotional I am and that I don’t always accept all situations when they hurt me. So I started to observe my behaviour to understand myself. I wanted to discover my personality because I was so confused in that moment. This was amazing and opened my eyes. It became addictive, I didn´t want to stop absorbing ideas, knowledge, experiences, different points of view.
One of the goals of the course is to obtain a self-image and a self-knowledge, what is an awesome challenge especially in an international environment. Words with a very big meaning begin to appear: motivation, communication, feedback, satisfaction, active listening, visualisation, expectation... In this moment I fall in love, I couldn´t imagine the power of these meanings neither which one I like more, but it was an injection of energy and motivation.
The last but not the least, a good leader always involves the team. So, my team has described this course as: discovery, self-knowledge, enlightening, self-reflection, a chance for experience, sharing different points of view, the importance of listening the others, therapy, self-consciousness, know your opponent, aware of culture differences, communication, confident, brainstorming, challenging and inspiration.
