Flight Safety Section Swiss Air Force (FS SAF)
The Flight Safety Section advises Air Force commanders on all matters relating to the safety of air operations.
It is responsible for the Air Force's Safety Management System (SMS), with which risks are identified, reduced to an acceptable level and maintained at that level in a continuous process. The SMS includes a reporting system, proactive risk management and the independent investigation of incidents. The Flight Safety Section also provides aviation safety training to personnel as part of the SMS.
The importance of Flight Safety
The Air Force is entrusted with tasks that involve increased risks, depending on the mission, the situation and the operational environment. In general, and especially in a normal strategic situation, the Air Force attaches the utmost importance to the safe conduct of flight operations in order to fulfil its responsibilities to the public, the state, the environment, and its staff, and to build trust. Safe flight operations are essential to the efficient delivery of services and are a demonstration of performance and professionalism.
Safety Management System Swiss Air Force
The Military Aviation Safety Management comprises all organisational measures and processes for dealing with safety risks in aviation. To help manage this, the Air Force has implemented a Safety Management System (SMS).
The aim is to ensure the best possible readiness and availability of the Air Force, in order to guarantee maximum operational performance.
