Taflir, the tactical aviation radar, is a transportable radar system. It is capable from many locations of acquiring and displaying targets, articularly those flying at low level. It assists the production of the overall air situation picture by providing appropriate data. The Taflir systems which can be employed either independently or in combination with other systems are operated by members of the mobile Air Force radar companies of the Flight Training Command Support Unit. Five systems were procured in the 1985 Armaments Programme and introduced into service with units in 1987.
