Centre for Historic Equipment of the Armed Forces

The Center for Historic Equipment of the Armed Forces (CHEAF) bears overall responsibility for the collections of historic equipment of the Swiss Armed Forces. It reflects their history and the technological development over the past 200 years.

Within the context of its mission, the CHEAF collaborates closely with the following partners (organizations under private law): Historic Military Equipment Trust (HAM), Historic Military Command Support Equipment Trust (HAMFU), Museum and Historic Equipment of the Swiss Air Force Trust (MHMLW).

The issue of superfluous military equipment is regulated by the directives concerning the ‘collection of historic equipment of the armed forces’ and the CHEAF is legitimized to give historic armed forces equipment to qualified museums, collectors and traditional associations.

Further information is only available in our official national languages German, French and Italian.

Interested persons may submit an application as museum, collector or traditional association to the CHEAF. (Documents in German only).

Superfluous military historical equipment will be issued only to qualified museums, collectors and traditional associations during specified action of military equipment delivery. Dates and material catalogues will be sent electronically to the qualified institutions. (Terms of conditions paper in German only.)

Vehicles of the Swiss the armed forces left behind out of 200 years perform a cultural heritage of unique importance. They are documented comprehensively in four volumes (German only).
