The Armed Forces support 18 top sportsmen and sportswomen with a 50% employment as Zeitmilitär (temporary military employment). Athletes who play an internationally dominant role in their sport can benefit from this employment. The ultimate goal is for the athlete to achieve a diploma or medal ranking at the Olympic Games.
After each Olympic cycle (Summer/Winter Olympic Games), the Sports Centre of Competence of the Swiss Armed Forces informs the individual sports federations about the available positions and gives them the opportunity to register potential top Zeitmilitär (ZM) athletes. Subsequently, the Sports Centre of Competence, in close cooperation with Swiss Olympic, decides which candidates are invited to a selection interview in Magglingen and are subsequently designated as ZM.

Requirements:

  • Spitzensport-RS (if necessary first Olympic WK) completed
  • Individual sport (or team sport with max. 2 persons) as well as member of the Swiss Olympic association
  • Has a great potential to achieve a diploma or a medal at the Olympic Games or World Championships.
  • Good international track record in sports
  • Close cooperation with the Federel Office of Sports (use of the SOMC, use of the Magglingen, Andermatt and Tenero sites for training, receipt of sport funds for major sporting events, etc)
  • Holder of a Swiss Olympic Card (gold, silver or bronze)
  • "Top athlete" status with Swiss Olympic
  • Up to now maximum utilization of the Olympic / World Championship refresh courses
  • Top sport as first priority in life
  • Experiences in the cooperation between federation, Armed Forces, Swiss Olympic and the Federel Office of Sports are consistently positive
  • Detailed planning incl. interim target setting up to the Olympic Games/World Championships is available
  • Federation provides highly qualified coaches and a professional environment
  • Clear "commitment" to regularly representing the armed forces in public as its employer (identification as a top athlete of the Swiss Armed Forces)
