Armed Forces Staff

The Armed Forces Staff supports the Chief of the Armed Forces in carrying out leadership duties. It is responsible for implementing political directives and military strategic instructions. Furthermore, it ensures the development, planning, resource allocation and management of the armed forces, and is responsible for the entrepreneurial leadership of the defence sector. The Armed Forces Staff manages the operational level of Training and Education, Operations and Support according to directives given.


Joint Operations Command (JOC)

The Joint Operations Command is responsible for planning and leading all missions and operations of the Swiss Armed Forces. The following areas report to the Chief of Joint Operations Command: the Military Intelligence Service/Armed Forces Preventive Protection Service, the Land Forces, the four territorial divisions, the Military Police Command, the Swiss Air Force, the Armed Forces International Command SWISSINT and the Special Forces Command (SFC).


Armed Forces Logistics Organisation (AFLO)

The AFLO provides all logistics and medical services for the armed forces. It supplies and maintains equipment for training and operations, and ensures the medical support of military personnel. In addition, AFLO specialists are in charge of operating the armed forces’ around 25,000 facilities. Vehicles, equipment, food and textiles are stored in the five AFLO logistics centres, kept functionally ready, prepared for use and taken back after the services. The logistics brigade’s 14,000 members, provide all the logistic support the armed forces need. The six regional medical centres (RMC) and the Coordinated Medical Service Headquarters in Ittigen carry out all of the armed forces’ medical services. The Armed Forces Pharmacy produces medication for the troops and the Swiss population.


Command Support Organisation (AFCSO)

The AFCSO provides the essential Information and Communications Technology (ICT) and electronic operations services for the armed forces . It provides office automation, specialised applications and ICT systems. What is more, with its Centre for Electronic Operations, the AFCSO provides permanent services in electromagnetic, cyber and cryptology matters. The AFCSO’s crisis-proof, independent communication network (Swiss Command and Control Network) with its protected computer centres guarantees the operational readiness of the armed forces in any conceivable scenario.


Training and Education Command (TEC)

The Training and Education Command is responsible for planning, steering and carrying out standardised training and education of troops of all ranks, including officers, units and staffs. The Armed Forces College (AFC), the five training units, the Armed Forces Training Centre and Armed Forces Personnel all report to the Chief of Training and Education Command.
