Centre of Competence for Mountain Warfare
The Armed Forces Centre of Competence for Mountain Warfare (Komp Zen Geb D A) is a central component of the Swiss Armed Forces for ensuring basic and operational readiness in difficult terrain. Its main tasks include the training, selection and further development of mountain specialists.
Ensuring permanent readiness in difficult terrain, regardless of the time of day or difficult weather conditions to be able to:
- Search, rescue and recover people, material or systems in a specific part of the terrain either terrestrially or by air;
- Monitor critical infrastructure or terrain sections through observation posts, patrols and/or technical means;
- Within the scope of enabling, advising, and accompanying military units and conducting reconnaissance.
The centre also develops tactical and technical regulations for deployment in difficult terrain and carries out trials and tests for this purpose. The Komp Zen Geb D A has excellent national and international networks with partner organisations. In addition to further development and cooperation, the centre is also responsible for managing the Andermatt military base. It serves as a logistical base and coordinates the occupancy in the Andermatt area and is also the central point of contact for enquiries.
The Komp Zen Geb D A has the following formations:
- Mountain Specialist School 15 (Geb Spez S 15);
- Mountain Specialist Standby Detachment 104/204 (Geb Spez Ber Det);
- Mountain Specialist Section 1 (Geb Spez Abt 1);
- Professional component of Komp Zen Geb D A (professional military / specialised instructor mountain guide).
