Army Reconnaissance Detachment 10
Army Reconnaissance Detachment 10 (ARD 10) is a professional unit of the Special Forces Command which can perform the following tasks within the framework of the Army’s missions:
- Protection of persons and property abroad
- Military assistance
- Special reconnaissance
- Repatriation of persons
- Rescure and extraction of persons
- Direct operations
Fulfilling the demanding tasks of the ARD 10 requires above-average physical and mental fitness. Consequently, prospective members of the AAD 10 undergo a rigorous, multi-stage selection process. In addition to the basic requirements, candidates must pass a two-day pre-selection process, a medical examination at the Institute of Aviation Medicine (FAI), a psychological assessment, an individual interview and a 19-day practical selection course. Employment as an army reconnaissance specialist is only possible after passing all the individual tests.
Successful graduates are employed as specialist military personnel upon commencing basic training in ARD 10. Basic training lasts 18 months and follows the same structure for all participants. In addition to practical training in various operational techniques (combat techniques, reconnaissance, urban warfare, protection, demolition, communications, survival, medical services, helicopter operations, parachuting, mobility, amphibious operations, mountain warfare, etc.), training also covers subjects such as teaching methods, tactics and leadership techniques.
Upon completion of basic training, personnel transfer to the operational unit and are thus integrated into one of the operational platoons. This transfer marks the start of training to become a specialist (demolition specialist, communications specialist, weapons specialist, medical specialist) and in-depth training in specialised infiltration techniques.
Upon completion of the basic course, members of ARD 10 hold at least the rank of Sergeant. In addition, members of ARD 10 receive further individual training as part of their professional duties.
