The operation in brief:
The Swiss Armed Forces will assist the towns and cantons in carrying out the European football championship 2008 with a subsidiary security and support operation. They thus contribute to implementation of the national security concept for the EURO 08. It is the largest engagement of forces in more than 60 years.
Prior to and after the major sports event, the armed forces will assist in assembling and dismantling the infrastructure. During the EURO 08 from 2 to 28 June, up to 15,000 military persons will be engaged in various tasks from management and medical support to facility protection and airspace protection. The majority of military forces will work in the background. The armed forces will not conduct law enforcement operations.
