The SFC contains command, operation, support and training elements. The operational elements differ according to their range of operations, readiness as well as their professional and reserve aspects.

Staff Special Forces Command (Staff SFC)

Staff SFC Badge

The Staff SFC is a specialised staff for the planning and conduct of exceptional operations and other tactical assignments of the special forces. Its structure corresponds to the staff of a major unit, i.e. with deployable core staff consisting of military personnel and a majority of militia officers.

SFC headquarters company (SFC HQ coy)

SFC HQ coy Badge

The SFC headquarters company is a mixed formation of the SFC. It consists of a standby professional core and a militia majority. Headquarters company SFC contains one commando platoon, two security platoons, as well as one signals, one intelligence and one logistic platoon.

Armed Forces Reconnaissance Detachment 10 (ARD 10)

The ARD 10 is a professional special unit of the armed forces, which is exclusively compiled of polyvalent military personnel. The ARD 10 is structured into four different basic elements and has the following range of assignments:

  • Gathering of intelligence
  • Security consulting / military assistance
  • Protection of people and property
  • Rescue and repatriation
  • Direct operations.

Military police special detachment (MP spec det)

MP spec det Badge

The MP spec det is a military police special unit of the armed forces that consists exclusively of personnel who have done (military) police basic training. The position includes the following range of duties:

  • Close Protection
  • Arrest and detention of security risk personnel
  • Intervention
  • Facility protection and surveillance
  • Consultation and training
  • Cooperation with the Federal Council Guard Detachment (SDBR)
  • Special services in support of Military Security (Mil Sec).

Grenadier battalions (gren bn)

The Grenadier Battalions 20, 30 and 40 (reserve units) are militia units of the SFC that are specialised for direct operations and exceptional reconnaissance within the context of special operations. They comprise the following elements:

  •  1 battalion staff
  •  1 grenadier headquarters company
  •  3 grenadier companies (direct operations)
  •  1 grenadier scout company (special reconnaissance)
  •  1 grenadier support company.

Parascout Company 17 (Parascout Coy 17)

Parascout Coy 17 Badge

Parascout Company 17 is a militia unit of the SFC that specialises in reconnaissance. They are able to reach the named area of interest from the air. They consist of a commando platoon as well as parascouts patrols.

Special Forces Training Centre (SFTC)

SFTC Badge

The Special Forces Training Centre is also the centre of excellence for the entire Swiss Armed Forces. In collaboration with specialist elements, the SFTC provides for the training, preservation and development of expertise in precision shooting, parachuting, survival / life and enduring in the field, helicopter techniques, explosive breaching and amphibious infiltration techniques, close protection and intervention.
Furthermore, the SFTC has the mission to secure the manning/recruitment of the grenadier battalions and the parachute reconnaissance company until the level of company commander, alongside introducing new weapons, systems, and techniques.
The SFTC consists of the following schools and courses:

  •  Grenadier course
  •  Grenadier reconnaissance and parascout courses
  •  NCO course
  •  CO school
  •  Precision shooting course
  •  Fighting and living in the field course
  •  Technical course (TC I / II / A / B)
  •  Practical service for cadres (group leader up to battalion commander).
