Verification is a central element of confidence- and security-building measures (CSBMs) which serves to check and ensure observance of international agreements and treaties relating to arms control. 'Verification' is concerned with the implementation of the stipulations contained in various treaties and politically binding agreements. In this sense any state can make its contribution to preventive security policy, to confidence building, transparency and predictability and thus help to establish security and promote stability in the corresponding area of application.
Within the International Relations Defence agency, the Verification branch is concerned with the three fields of verification, implementation and arms control.
