UNTAG (Namibia)

Swiss participation in the UNTAG

Members of SMU prepared a MEDEVAC.

From middle of March 1989 to the end of March 1990, the Swiss Armed Forces participated for the first time with an average of 150 people in UNTAG with a Swiss Medical Unit (SMU). This mission in Namibia was based on a decision of the Federal Council taken at the end of February 1989 and on the UN resolution 632.

Please find more information on Swiss involvement in UNTAG here.
