ISAF (Afghanistan)
Swiss participation in the International Security and Assistance Force (ISAF)
With the deployment of 31 officers to ISAF, the Swiss Armed Forces were involved in Afghanistan from March 2003 to February 2008. The Swiss officers, including three medical doctors, were stationed in Kabul, Kunduz and Faizabad. In Kunduz Swiss nationals served as liaison officers for the Provincial Reconstruction Team (PRT). Their task was comparable to that of military observers: They carried out patrols, cultivated contacts with local dignitaries and monitored the environment, in order to obtain an overview of the current situation.
