Armed Forces Personnel (J1)
From their recruitment to their discharge from military service, the members of the armed forces are assisted by the «armed forces personnel office».
Recruitment clarifies whether the young Swiss men and volunteer young Swiss women are fit for military, civil defence service and alternative civilian service. Armed Forces Personnel is the contact authority for service management, mutations and promotions, control of strength, control and supervision of cadre selection and recommendations for promotions, personnel readiness, development of manpower and the requirement for young soldiers as well as for answering basic questions regarding liability to military service. Temporary leave management is administered in cooperation with the cantonal military administrations. In addition to recruiting and training new military chaplains, contacts with the national state churches are cultivated. The Armed Forces Social service is responsible for counselling and supporting members of the armed forces, commanding officers and military schools.
