18.01.2012 The Federal Council approves the Dispatch to Parliament on the protection of the Swiss Embassy in Tripoli
On 18 January 2012, the Federal Council approved the Dispatch to Parliament on the deployment of the Swiss Armed Forces to protect the Swiss Embassy in Tripoli. A detachment has been deployed for a period of six months, taking over this task from a private security company.

A detachment of the Swiss Armed Forces will ensure security for the Swiss Embassy in Tripoli and its staff in the coming year. The Federal Council has taken this decision on the basis of a deployment plan.
11.11.2011 Swiss support for the reconstruction of the Trebevic cable car in Sarajevo
The Trebevic cable car in Sarajevo, which was destroyed in the Bosnian war, is being reconstructed with Swiss aid. The municipalities of Grächen and Saas Fee in the Canton of Valais have donated the equipment of the Hannigalpbahn cableway for this purpose. The Swiss Armed Forces in conjunction with the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC) will start transporting the equipment next week. On Monday, the Swiss Ambassador to Bosnia-Herzegovina will sign an agreement on cooperation on this project with the City of Sarajevo.
31.10.2011 Espionage attacks on companies are now commonplace – Thirteenth MELANI semi-annual report
In the first half of 2011, the Reporting and Analysis Centre for Information Assurance (MELANI) detected higher numbers of espionage attacks on the most diverse range of companies worldwide. The number of hacker attacks aimed at accessing sensitive data also increased. There was a massive increase in skimming cases in Switzerland. These are some of the focus areas of the latest semi-annual report, which was published today.

29 Swiss and international officers are currently being trained as UN military observers in Stans (Canton of Nidwalden). The aim is to prepare the future unarmed military observers for deployment in crisis areas. The training will conclude with an international exercise in the Lake Constance area.
19.04.2011 Increase of cyber attacks on the availability of websites and with the goal of damaging service providers
The primary goal of cyber attacks continues to be to deny the availability of websites or to infect them with malware. In terms of motivation, a shift from pure acts of vandalism toward acts of revenge, damage to competitors, or political goals has been noted. The computer worm Stuxnet also shows that practically any system can be attacked. These are some of the focus areas of the 12th semi-annual report of MELANI.

24.02.2011 Web-based map viewing on mobile devices: A new approach for collaboration using an Open Source framework
The Swiss federal government in a joint initiative with cantons, cities, universities and private companies has enabled web-based viewing of spatial data on mobile devices. The solution is based on a publicly available open source framework. Geospatial information e.g. geo.admin.ch will be able to be directly viewed in smartphone browsers.
